Sixty Years of Adventure
An evening of community, connection, and travel.
Proudly published in Lake Oswego Lifestyle Magazine as part of our ongoing community travel column.
On November 5, more than 250 guests walked into the incredible event space at Ironlight for an evening that felt joyful, relaxed, and meaningful. Travel & Cruise Desk was celebrating its 60th anniversary, and Lake Oswego showed up with clients, neighbors, and partners gathering to mark a milestone for a family-owned business that has served this community since 1965.
We designed the event as an open house rather than a formal gala. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and wine, browsed vendor tables, and spent time talking directly with travel experts from across the globe. Over two dozen preferred partners joined us, including Viking, Abercrombie & Kent, Tauck, HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions), PONANT, Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, Explora Journeys, Travel Answers Group, African Travel, Apple Vacations & Inclusive Collection, Delta Vacations, and many others. It was a rare chance for travelers to learn firsthand about safaris, small-ship exploration, rail journeys, river cruises, and expedition travel to places like Antarctica, the Arctic, and the Galápagos.

Throughout the afternoon, guests also enjoyed short presentations. Expedition cruises were one of the most talked-about topics of the night, with purpose-built ships that take travelers close to wildlife, glaciers, and remote natural wonders. Safari specialists shared stories from Africa, helping guests understand the differences between safari lodges, private conservancies, and guided wildlife experiences. For many, it opened a new world of travel possibilities beyond traditional sightseeing.
A special shout-out goes to our local partners who helped make the evening memorable, starting with Ironlight, whose team, space, and rooftop views elevated the celebration. One of the most popular stops was the Rhone River Wine Experience, created by local sommelier Michael from C’est What!, giving guests a taste of Europe and a glimpse into river cruising. Thank you as well to Brian from Studio B for capturing the night in photographs and showcasing his own work alongside the Porthole Cruise Collection by Art De Camille, which added a creative, nautical touch to the event.
While the evening was fun, there was purpose behind it. Every ticket sold supported Travel Elevates, a nonprofit that funds community projects around the world. Their grants support education, conservation, and sustainable economic development, from science labs in Zambia to classroom construction in Tanzania and digital learning centers in Central and South America. By making the anniversary a fundraiser, every guest helped contribute to meaningful projects that make a real difference. Travel & Cruise Desk also donates 10% of all BEYOND Planning & Service fees to Travel Elevates.
For our team, the night was humbling. Sixty years in any industry is rare, especially for a company that has navigated changing technology, shifting consumer habits, recessions, natural disasters, and a global shutdown. We are still here because our community continues to support local businesses, value real expertise, and see the difference a trusted professional travel advisor makes.
The event ended with prize drawings, cheerful conversations, and a simple message: thank you. Thank you for supporting a local business. Thank you for showing up. And thank you for believing in travel that is thoughtful, intentional, and meaningful.

As the lights dimmed and guests headed home, someone asked whether we should do something similar again next year. Judging by the smiles and the number of travelers now dreaming about safaris, expeditions, and new places to explore, the answer seems clear.
Travel brings people together. And so does Lake Oswego.
