MEET YOUR WINE HOST -  JAROD SLEET

Jarod Sleet, Assistant Winemaker ROCO Winery

Though born in Kentucky, Jarod didn’t fall in love with the grape juice inside oak barrels until he moved to Oregon and attended culinary school as an aspiring chef. Learning about food—its sources, techniques, and surprises—led him first to Oregon wine country as a harvest intern, and then to Oregon State University for his bachelor’s degree in viticulture and enology. Following winemaking stints at Willamette Valley’s Cana’s Feast, Archery Summit, and Argyle, Jarod joined ROCO Winery in 2017 as Assistant Winemaker where he continues to pursue his passion for crafting world-class sparkling wine.

When he’s not in the cellar, Jarod uses his culinary skills to develop food pairings and menus for wine club events and winery dinners.

ROCO Winery was established in 2003 by wine industry veterans Rollin Soles and Corby StonebrakerSoles. Located near the Dundee Hills in Oregon's Willamette Valley, ROCO Winery produces world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Méthode Champenoise Sparkling Wines.

In 2001, the Wits' End Vineyard was planted in the Chehalem Mountain Range. This founder-owned vineyard remains the source of ROCO Winery's Private Stash Pinot Noir, having marked the winery's inception in 2003 with just 99 cases.

The winery's ascent to prominence was swift, with its 2003 Private Stash Pinot Noir gracing the White House table in 2007. Further recognition followed as ROCO's 2008 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir secured a coveted spot among Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of the Year.

In 2013, the expansion of Wits' End Vineyard to 20 acres, along with the introduction of a Chardonnay block, heralded a period of growth and creativity. That same year saw the construction of the winery's tasting room and the inauguration of its sparkling wine program.

In 2017, Jarod Sleet joined the team as Assistant Winemaker, bringing additional talent and passion to the cellar. Though born in Kentucky, Jarod didn’t fall in love with grape juice inside oak barrels until he moved to Oregon and attended culinary school as an aspiring chef. A passion for food—its sources, techniques, and surprises—led him first to Oregon wine country as a harvest intern, and then to Oregon State University where he received a bachelor's degree in viticulture and enology. Jarod completed his 7th harvest at ROCO Winery in 2023.

2022 marked a transformative phase for the winery as Santa Margherita USA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Santa Margherita Gruppo Vinicolo, acquired majority ownership—a union fortifying ROCO's commitment to quality while harnessing decades of winemaking expertise.

Dedicated to sustainability, ROCO Winery is LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) Certified and Salmon Safe. These certifications serve as a testament to the winery's efforts to minimize its environmental impact and preserve the integrity of the land.

With an eye for innovation and over 45 years of collective experience, the winery continues to push the boundaries of winemaking. The pursuit of excellence and dedication to responsible winemaking sets ROCO Winery apart as a respected name in Oregon. Its distinction extends far beyond the lush vineyards of the Willamette Valley; it resonates as a revered name on the global wine stage. Each bottle produced encapsulates a narrative of compelling expression, a synthesis of innovative techniques harmonized with an unyielding dedication to uncompromised quality.
